In the IT industry we love to invent new terms!  One of the latest is 'consumerisation'.  This is defined 'loosely' as the power of consumer choice forcing changes to the strategy of business and IT managers.

A great example of Consumerisation is when thousands of IPhone users began connecting their phones to corporate wireless networks.  Initially this caused bandwidth difficulties for IT managers but later, companies and even schools realised that it was an aid to service users in accomplishing tasks.
